Hurghada in Winter: Weather and Sea Temperature Month by Month (October–April)

ساحل الغردقة من فوق

Updated October 2026 · The HAPPYDAYS team, in Hurghada since 2014

If you are looking for winter sun, Hurghada is one of the closest and most reliable options: warm days, sunshine almost every day and very little rain. But winter here is not summer: evenings turn cool, the sea is colder than many people expect, and the wind can be strong. This guide tells you what to expect in each month from October to April.

In short:

  • Daytime: 22–32°C depending on the month. January is the coolest, with average highs around 22°C.
  • Nights: down to 11–13°C in December, January and February. Bring a jacket.
  • Sea: about 21–23°C in midwinter, 25–26°C in October and November.
  • Rain: almost none, under 1 mm a month for most of the winter.
  • Wind: Hurghada is a windy city, which is great for kitesurfing but makes the beach feel cooler.

October and November: a gentle summer

The best two months for many visitors: days are still warm (28–32°C), the sea is at its warmest after the summer, and it is less crowded than in summer. Perfect for swimming, snorkelling and full-day island trips.

December, January and February: the heart of winter

Days are sunny and pleasant (22–24°C), so you can sit on the beach and walk around comfortably. But once the sun sets it cools quickly, and nights can drop to 11–12°C. The sea is around 21–23°C: many people swim happily in the sun, but for long snorkelling or diving a wetsuit makes a big difference.

Christmas to New Year is one of the busiest weeks of the year, so book early. It is also the best time for a day trip to Luxor, when the heat of Upper Egypt is far gentler.

March and April: warming up again

Days warm up again (26–30°C), but the sea is still a little cool because it lags behind the air. Spring can also bring very windy or dusty days (the khamaseen), so keep a plan B in case a boat trip is cancelled.

What to pack

  • A light jacket or sweatshirt for evenings and early-morning boat trips.
  • Sunscreen: the sun is strong even in January.
  • Swimwear and sandals, of course. If you love snorkelling, consider renting a wetsuit.
  • Sunglasses and a hat for the wind and sun on the boat.

What to do in winter

  • Snorkelling and diving: underwater visibility is good in winter, and the coral reefs are there all year.
  • Desert safari: comfortable by day, but desert nights are very cold.
  • Kitesurfing: the wind in Hurghada, El Gouna and Soma Bay is a big part of their fame.
  • A trip to Luxor: winter is the best time to visit the temples.

Spending the whole winter in Hurghada

Many people, especially from Europe, spend a month or more in Hurghada in winter. This is where a serviced apartment beats a hotel: a kitchen, space, a washing machine and a much better monthly price.

Tip from our team: most apartments in Hurghada have no central heating, because they are built for the heat. Before booking a long stay in December or January, ask: does the air conditioning have a heating mode? Is there a heater? Is there enough hot water? These things matter a lot on winter nights.
